ORBIS Uses Lean Six Sigma To Improve the Customer Experience

ORBIS Corporation uses the Lean Six Sigma philosophy to
leverage its continuous improvement efforts and drive customer delight

What is Lean Six Sigma?

Lean Six Sigma is a disciplined, data-driven methodology used to continually improve processes, services and products, to result in an improved experience for our customers.

This methodology provides a set of tools that ORBIS employees can utilize to make effective decisions, solve problems and drive continuous improvement

To date, 95% of ORBIS salaried employees have completed Six Sigma orientation. More than 60 have been trained as “Green Belts”. Green Belts are employees trained in basic Six Sigma concepts, including project management, team building, general problem solving and statistical analysis. They work as part of a team assigned to a given project, while maintaining their operational roles within ORBIS.

Why Lean Six Sigma?

It yields sustainable improvements that result in a consistent, beneficial experience for the ORBIS customer.

Who Uses Six Sigma?
Many of  today’s leading companies use the Six Sigma approach to improve their business, including General Electric, Motorola, Dow Chemical, Honeywell and Johnson Controls.

Where is Six Sigma Used at ORBIS?
Projects are identified in all aspects of the business, including manufacturing, finance, purchasing, engineering, customer support and sales. “While traditionally thought of as an improvement approach solely used in manufacturing applications, ORBIS has leveraged this Six Sigma philosophy across almost all of its functions,” stated ORBIS’ Director of Six Sigma, Allen Dembski. “In addition, it provides tremendous cross-training opportunities for our employees…so they can better impact the customer value stream.”

How does Six Sigma Work?
Six Sigma can be used in two ways: 1) to improve an existing processes or 2) design a brand new process. When designing a brand new process, ORBIS utilizes the “Design for Six Sigma” (DFSS) method to introduce new processes that are Six Sigma in quality, right from the start.

In addition, this process can be used directly with customers to help them identify opportunities for improvement. The ORBIS Engineering Services team is trained in Six Sigma and can help with your Six Sigma efforts. Please contact info@orbiscorporation.com, for more information about this service.

ORBIS…Committed to Continuous Improvement
Jim Kotek, ORBIS Corporation President commented, “Six Sigma is a critical tool we are broadly deploying across ORBIS to improve service levels to customers. Lean Six Sigma is very much aligned with our vision statement that says "we are the best at packaging it right ... we have the absolute best people ... and ... we relentlessly keep our commitments."
