Reduce shipping delays and product damage with ORBIS plastic pallets, designed specifically for international shipping applications.

Why Plastic?
ORBIS pallets are produced from recyclable materials to provide an efficient, lightweight alternative to wood pallets that require costly and time-consuming kiln-drying, fumigation or chemical treatment now REQUIRED prior to international shipment. Use of plastic pallets eliminate the need for treatment and the associated certification documentation and can effectively expedite goods through the international inspection process.

What Do the Wood Packaging Guidelines Mean to Importers and Exporters?
On September 16, 2006, the International Plant Protection Convention (IPPC) began strict enforcement of the Guidelines for Regulating Wood Packaging Material in International Trade (ISPM # 15) to prevent the spread and introduction of pests of plants and plant products. These requirements are for coniferous and non-coniferous raw wood packaging material (WPM) that may serve as a pathway for plant pests posing a threat mainly to living trees, including wood: 1) pallets, 2) boxes, crates and 3) dunnage.  Prior to shipping these wood packaging materials, they must undergo approved heat treatment or Methyl Bromide fumigation and must be labeled/documented accordingly. Click here for "What the Wood Packaging Guidelines Means to You".

What are the Risks of Non-Compliance with these Guidelines?
Important and valuable shipments can be delayed. Not sure of the guidelines for the countries you are shipping to or from? Click here for Packaging Guidelines, by Country.  Without treatment marks, authorities at the first port of arrival can:

  • Order the immediate re-export of wood packaging, or
  • Have it treated, or
  • Destroy it, at the importer’s expense

What are the Hidden Costs on Non-Compliance?

  • Delayed product shipments
  • Heat-treatment or fumigation  of wood pallets
  • Re-treatment of used wood pallets
  • Added documentation requirements
  • Product loss because of rejection at port of entry
  • Time to off-load to an acceptable shipping platform
  • Non-value resolution time - phone calls, fax and e-mail with freight forwarders, etc.
