Company: Greenville Utilities Commission (GUC)
Packaging Application: Storage of nuts and bolts, PVC and galvanized elbows,
regulators and meters at Greenville Utilities Commission (GUC)
Packaging Challenge: Parts were being stored in galvanized wire baskets and wooden
containers that wouldn't hold their shape. The wooden containers would start rotting only after a
few years and the wire baskets were getting bent by forklift blades and they rusted quickly. GUC
had to continually spend valuable time and money replacing them.
Packaging Solution: ORBIS worked with the Greenville Utilities service
center to recommend durable plastic reusable bulk containers. The GUC purchased several 45" x
48" and 64.5" x 48" high-density polyethylene containers for their warehouse and in the open
yard. They are stacked two to three high, so the crews simply open the drop doors and pull the
stock they need.
Product: 45" x 48" and 64.5" x 48" bulk containers
Results: These bulk containers have yielded substantial savings in money and time
for GUC. The real test came when Hurricane Floyd ravaged the area. The hurricane devastated almost
everything in sight, but the bulk containers stood strong. They protected the materials
inside with their open construction and built-in ventilation when other packaging was swept away or
literally fell apart. GUC was so impressed with the long life and durability of these
bulk containers, they immediately doubled their existing
order to store their salvaged stock.
